Let's talk about one of my experiences on The Voice Australia 2019.
Outwardly, I've become a professional at masking my nervousness and singing well, even in the most tense situations.
But every time I stepped in front of Guy or the other on set vocal coaches, it's like I would forget some of the things I really thought I had under control. I was straining more. Tensing up my throat. Trying too hard. I was nervous.
“I wanted to impress them so badly. I understand that you may feel this way any time you get in front of someone, even your vocal coach. Even me.”
I really want y'all to know that this is a safe space. I want to hear what may be challenging you so I can help you. Don't be afraid to not be perfect. Don't be afraid to go for it. Don't be afraid that you might crack. I'm here to coach you with all my combined training and experience of over 22 years. I've been in your shoes. You can relax. You can trust me.
I can't wait to see you grow. You will love the journey. It's not a race. Just take your time and soak it in. Treat your instrument with patience and it will reward you with longevity.
3 Practical Tips:
1. Do some breathing exercises to relax.
2. Roll your shoulders back and loosen up your neck.
3. Drop your jaw. You should be able to fit 3 vertical fingers or a wine cork!
See you soon + stay warm! Cx
